150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg

To Americans, the 4^th of July signifies the US declaring our independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain, which is a great cause for celebration!  These celebrations are usually associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, and spending time with your friends and family while taking time to appreciate the freedom that we have.

An interesting fact that you may not know is 87 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed, the Battle of Gettysburg would take place in Pennsylvania on July 1^st through July 3, 1863.   After three days of gruesome battling, the soldiers of the Union arose triumphant.  This battle was one of the bloodiest fought on US soil killing as many as 50,000 Americans.  The Civil War did not end with The Battle of Gettysburg; it would continue for another two years.  It did signify, however, a colossal turning point in the struggle against slavery in the United States.  July 1^st through July 3^rd, 2013 marks the 150^th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.  According to History.com, The Battle of Gettysburg is considered the most important engagement of the American Civil War.
